Lichfield v Burntwood u11s

Lichfield u11s hosted local opponents Burntwood in their first full-contact fixture since March 2020. The rain that was forecast didn’t arrive and the sunny, dry conditions were perfect for some fast paced rugby by both teams.

Burntwood had the best of the early exchanges, with a clear try-scoring chance created after some extremely strong carries through Lichfield tackles. They were denied only by a last gasp Lichfield defender forcing a knock-on within a metre of the try line. From the resulting free pass (scrums still not allowed under Covid regulations) Lichfield displayed some fantastic free flowing rugby. They carved through the Burntwood defence with ease to score at the other end within seconds.

This set the pattern for the match; the strength and determination of some very direct Burntwood attacks more often than not matched by the Lichfield defence. By contrast Lichfield were keen to exploit even the smallest of gaps left in the Burntwood defensive line with some fantastic passing moves and a fast line speed.

A number of very effective turnovers by Lichfield seemed to dishearten a Burntwood team already struggling in the hot conditions. The fast paced Lichfield attack ran in try after unanswered try, to start their return to competitive rugby with a resounding win.
