Lichfield u11s travelled to Sixways Stadium, home of the Worcester Warriors, for the final Land Rover Cup tournament of the 2020/21 season.
The tropical temperatures of last weekend’s edition of the Land Rover Cup at Leicester Tigers were replaced by damp, overcast playing conditions in Worcester. Thankfully the rain mostly stayed away as the team were treated to a 4G playing experience on the elite squad training pitch.
During their first 2 group matches, Lichfield u11s came out on top, firstly against Drybrook RFC from the Forest of Dean and then against Widden Old Boys RFC, based in Gloucester. Neither side could cope with the fast paced and skillful Lichfield attack, keeping up the pressure on their opponents with great continuity and support play. In defence the Lichfield line held strong, being as well disciplined as ever and always going forward to contest possession.
The final group game against Worcester RFC was a much tighter affair, both teams eventually having to settle for a draw. With tempers fraying towards the end of a tough contest, in which neither side ever got more than one score ahead, the referee blew his whistle for one final time to bring to a close the 2020/21 season for the Lichfield u11s.
Much appreciation as always from the coaches to the u11 parents for another early start at Worcester on Fathers’ Day and also their fantastic support throughout a disjointed season.
The work for next season starts on Sunday at squad training and will continue throughout July and August.
