The Tigers u11s Land Rover Cup took place at Brooksby College (Leicester Tigers’ ACE Academy), with matches played in a non-contact Ready4Rugby format due to current Covid restrictions.
Lichfield u11s were drawn in a tough group against Market Harbrough, Loughborough and Spalding RFC.
Players and coaches from all teams took time to adjust to the adapted laws, which allows for touches from 2 different defenders on the ball carrier, before needing to stop and heel the ball backwards to a teammate.
The blisteringly hot weather meant rolling substitutes were essential, but the fast paced touch rugby was unrelenting, with plenty of fantastic individual and team tries scored at either end.
The Lichfield team were praised by the referees and Tigers staff for their good team play in both attack and defence and also their respect for the officials.
As a result of their performances today, Lichfield u11s have qualified for the Land Rover Cup Finals event at the start of next season, when full contact rules will return.
Thanks from the coaches to all the parents that travelled to Melton Mowbray for a very early start today, we look forward to a similar Land Rover Cup event at Sixways with Worcester Warriors next weekend.
