U12’s - Lichfield v Newport (Salop)

Lichfield U12s hosted Newport (Salop) RFC this weekend at Cooke Fields, on a chilly Sunday morning.

Both squads had strong numbers and fielded 2 full sides each across 2 pitches. Throughout the 4 x 15 min periods Lichfield had to be at their tough tackling best to keep out 2 very powerful and well organised Newport sides.

Heavy pitch conditions didn’t allow for much free flowing rugby, so the hardy spectators were treated to a lively war of attrition, as both sides resorted to some very direct rugby.

Despite the best efforts of the Lichfield defensive units, very well constructed Newport attacks eventually broke through several times.

Lichfield did their best to stem the flow, with some excellent kicking relieving some pressure, but Newport were still going strong at the final whistle.

Great rugby played in an excellent spirit, Lichfield U12s played their hearts out. Well done lads!
