Telford Hornets U12s visited Cooke Fields and the players and spectators were treated to dry and sunny weather for the first time this year.
Both clubs fielded strong squads and played 4 x 15 min periods across 2 pitches.
From the outset Lichfield set about dominating both matches and ran in several unanswered tries, with confident handling and some strong carries constantly testing the Telford defence.
The hard pitches led to a few minor injury stoppages throughout the morning, but the action was mostly unrelenting. As the rugby progressed, Telford were able to raise their game and by the finish, with players on each side tiring, both matches were end to end contests.
A standout moment from the morning was a try created and finished by Lichfield second row Jacob Wylie. After stripping the ball from the opposition inside the Lichfield 5m line, Jacob burst through the Hornets defence and turned on the afterburners. He ran the length of the pitch to score, despite having to deal with the attentions of several Telford players in hot pursuit.
Great attacking rugby once again from Lichfield U12s and as always a big thankyou to the parents for your fantastic support.
A special mention this week for the Lichfield RUFC groundstaff, who have worked miracles to prepare such decent playing surfaces after the appalling weather recently.
