A number of young players have made their debut for the Lichfield u13s Girls team in a friendly non-contact fixture against local rivals Rugeley.
Recent school Covid isolations have played havoc with the u13s Girls team selection this week, so an inexperienced Lichfield lineup was drafted in at short notice and took to the pitch at Cooke Fields on Friday evening.
The match was played at an extremely high tempo, with Lichfield proving to be more than a match for their more experienced opposition. Once in possession Lichfield ran the ball forwards at every opportunity, with dynamic support play causing the Rugeley defence a constant menace.
Rugeley were a real threat in the wide channels, with pace on both wings, however Lichfield were determined to chase down their runners and forced a number of handling errors within yards of the Lichfield try line.
Honours were even at the end of 3 x 20 min playing periods, a remarkable achievement for a team made up of some of the newest and youngest members of the Lichfield u13s squad.
Thanks are due to the parents who answered the call at the eleventh hour and to Dan Thomas for expertly refereeing the fixture.
If this performance is anything to go by, the future looks bright for Lichfield u13s Girls team.
