Lichfield take the spoils in 10 try match which sees them secure a 9th bonus point

Lichfield Men's 1st XV, riding high from a cracking win against league-leaders Kenilworth, took a trip down the M5 to Kidderminster, who's season hasn't gotten off to the best start, coming off the back of 9 straight league defeats, today was going to add to that tally.

Lichfield opened the scoring within 5 minutes when Charlie Milner crossed the line, but failed to convert his own try, something which he'd make up for just two minutes when Dan Rowlands broke free, serving Milner to score his second, this time the conversion was good and Lichfield were up, 12-0.

Dan Rowlands continued to make trouble for Kidderminster in the mid, this time sending Greg Massey free on the 20 minute mark to score, Milner added the extras, score 19-0.

The next try would also come from Lichfield after considerable phase play, with Kidderminster defending bravely, Greg Massey latched onto an outstanding pass by Tom Penzer-Adams, making it to the corner for Lichfield's 4th, the score up to 24-0 after Milner couldn't add the extras.

Fans would only need to wait a minute for Lichfield's next score, Cal Turner gathered the restart, slipping to Steve Gabbittas who conjured an outrageous grubber to be gathered once against by Turner for a fantastic score, the conversion is good for Milner, Lichfield were up to 31 without reply.

Kidderminster's hard work paid-off in the 34th minute, as they crossed the line to score their first, the conversion was missed, the score now stood at 31-5 and that's how it stayed till half-time.

Lichfield piled the pressure on Kidderminster just 1 minute into the second-half, an unfortunate handling error by the KC side was gathered by Maxwell-Keys to score in the corner, Milner's conversion is good, 38-5.

Maxwell-Keys was pivotal just 12 minutes later, gathering a superb miss-pass from Luke Massey, slipping to Richard Fielding to score, the conversion was missed, Lichfield now sitting comfortably at 43-5, but the team were not done just yet.

Luke Massey on the 66 minute mark makes a wonderful break, drawing the last man out of position to set up brother Greg for his hat-trick, the conversion is made and Lichfield reach the half-century.

Just 3 minutes later would see utility hooker Gabbittas slip Sam Benson on the blind for a run down the wing from the 22, a great score, the extras are missed, the score now 55-5. Sam Benson makes the final pick and go after a number of breakdowns to score his second, the converted try takes the score to 62-5 which would be the final result.

A great 10 try performance from Lichfield, head coach Dan Hemingway "First, a massive credit to Kidderminster who worked hard for each other throughout and showed a real pride in their club. They are having a tough season but seem a group committed to working together."

"It was a potentially dangerous game for us after such a strong performance against top
of the league last week, but we put some good shapes together and scored some great tries. None better than Cal Turner dotting down following an outrageous kick from hooker Steve Gabbitass. It’s great to see us playing with such freedom."

"Another strong defensive performance and we push on into a challenging run of fixtures up to Christmas that can put us right in the mix at the top of the table."

Lichfield next play Worcester at home on the 23rd.
