A great performance from the boys, see them keep Kenilworth to zero points

A gloomy day greeted fans at Cooke Fields on Saturday, but the gloom was to remain only a meteorological factor, the infield display was anything but gloomy.

The myrtle greens, refreshed from a few weeks rest, with a cancelled Hereford game and no games played on the Rugby World Cup final day, were on fine form.

Rugby games, in the modern day are often decided on penalties, Lichfield made their lives considerably easier by giving away so few, the first points on the board went against Kenilworth with a Charlie Milner penalty just five minutes from kick-off.

The game was centred around midfield open play for some time before Greg Massey was set-up for a sprint to the line, the conversion was missed, the points now 8-0.

A second penalty to Lichfield drifted to the left of the posts, after a Kenilworth high-tackle on the 35 minutes mark, kept the score at 8-0 and it would remain that way till half-time.

After the restart, Paul Maxwell-Keys scored two tries in relatively quick succession, breaking down the left-wing, with both tries converted by captain Charlie Milner.

The final try came from Tom Penzer-Adams, further exposing a weakened left-wing defence for Kenilworth, Milner added the extras, taking the score to 29-0, and that was how it would remain till full-time.

A cracking game of rugby for Lichfield, which treated those who were prepared to endure the elements to some wonderful running rugby, there were a few spills, which is understandable in these conditions, but the the signs are encouraging, especially keeping the top-team to zero points!

Head coach, Dan Hemingway, said "Hugely proud of the performance yesterday, that’s one we have been working really hard towards. After the DK game we felt that we weren’t fit enough to play the way we wanted to and the guys have worked incredibly hard in training to correct that. A big target from the start of the year was to become more resilient and adaptable and yesterday we showcased both in abundance. The pack were simply outstanding in the amount of work they got through and the backs played some superb rugby in the conditions."

The first team next play Kidderminster away, on the 16th November.
