RIP DAVE 'STEVO' STEPHENSON

D H Stephenson
14-01-1940 ~ 24-09-2026

It is with deepest sorrow that we have to announce that Dave (aka "Stevo") Stephenson sadly passed away at home on Thursday September 24th aged 86. A Lichfield Rugby Club ‘stalwart’ in every definition of the word.

He was educated at King Edward's School in the city and taught for many years at The Friary School.

A regular First XV player "back in the day", Stevo also played for Moseley and London Welsh. He represented Staffordshire with great pride and became a Staffordshire Patron. He simply loved telling stories about the "dark arts" of front row play.

After his playing career ended, Stevo continued to serve the Lichfield Club in many other roles. He became Chair of Selectors – this at a time when the Club still ran 5 Senior Men's Teams. An art teacher by profession, he used his great art and design skills to create the Club Badge, much of the calligraphy on club trophies and awards, and also many a club tie. His proudest moment was when he was afforded Life Membership of the Club.

Stevo attended home matches and pre-match lunches pretty much without fail, and even when in his eighties, he still travelled to most away matches too. He was also a regular spectator at the Club on Sundays – watching the Colts and Ladies XVs. He was a very supportive and enthusiastic Vice President and will be sadly missed this Saturday - which ironically is Vice President's Day.

A true Lichfield Rugby man who will be dearly missed by everyone at the Club...our thoughts are with Lyn, family and friends.

Funeral details will follow when known.

c/o Barry Broad
