It was a close run match, but the opponents won out in the end at Cooke Fields

Despite the best efforts of the Myrtle Greens, the 1st XV couldn't recover from two early tries from Dudley Kingswinford and the reoccurrence of conceding a try after scoring one.

Dudley were up 14 points within 20 minutes at Cooke Fields before Callum Turner broke away and scored, taking the score to 7-14.

Shortly after the 30 minute mark Dudley went over for a third, 7-21, Lichfield replied 10 minutes later, 14-21 and Dudley replied 14 minutes after that, 14-28.

After the restart, Lichfield won a penalty that was unfortunately missed by Charlie Milner, the missed 3 points would end up being pivotal to the final result.

Lichfield were next to score with Rich Burton breaking free and powering over the line, Charlie Milner added the extras and it looked like Lich were coming back, 21-28. Dudley were next to add to their total, slotting a penalty over and bringing the score to 21-32.

Matt Smith scored the next try and the conversion was good, 28-31 and that's how the match ended, so close!

Lichfield Head Coach, Dan Hemingway:

"A fantastic contest at Cooke Fields today. We knew it would be a good game and it didn’t disappoint. Well done to DK on their win.

We felt we adapted much better second half, our work rate didn’t allow us to play first half and DK put us under a lot of pressure through their energy. We gave ourselves a shot to win it at the end, but on balance DK probably deserved to edge a close game."

Lichfield play Hereford away on Saturday 26th October.
