The annual game hosted at Cooke Fields was won by the admittedly stronger (on paper) President’s team on Saturday by seven tries to four in a good quality match considering forty players - virtually all bred by the mini junior section at the club and under 25 years of age- were thrown together an hour before kick off. It was enjoyed by all.
The winners started well and were 17 points to the good after 25 minutes, only to be pegged back to a five point lead by half time. The coaches refocused the sides at the break and the President’s line up put the game to bed by the hour mark with four more tries, as their extra power proved vital. The Chairman’s side finished well with two late converted efforts, to bring a most compelling afternoon to a halt.
Both teams turned out in specially designed shirts and two are being raffled over the Season in support of MNDA (motor neurone disease) and Lewis Moody, the former England player, who now has this dreadful illness. Contact the Lichfield rugby club to make donations or purchase tickets.
