MATCH REPORTS
LICHFIELD RED (1s) 69 NOVOS WOMEN (1s) 0
LICHFIELD GREEN (2s) 79 HANDSWORTH (1s) 0
With two games at home and against sides near the bottom of their respective leagues, Lichfield women were expecting to notch up victories and, in achieving the results they did, they beat par, especially by conceding a combined total of nil points and scoring 148 with 24 tries. There were continued signs of improvement in both teams and, after a week of trying to improve their defence, one might say the work paid off – admittedly against limited attacking ideas.
The Red team have now won three from six with 17 points and remain in sixth spot, but only two points off third. They do, however, have to visit unbeaten and top of the table, Sale FC 1861, on Sunday (KO 2pm), which will test their levels of concentration, fitness and skill levels. The Green team’s win puts them in second place in their league with three wins from four.
The Red team’s victory was achieved with 14 players for over half the game, but by then they were 24-0 up, which was extended to 31 by half time. Pleasingly, all 21 players had a decent amount of air time, including some new faces on debut. The Green team were also able to give plenty of exposure to the squad, including two debutants from the U18s, a key target for the team managements.
Red scorers were – Bryany Chalk (2), Mollie Stewart, Grace Patterson (2), Alyssa Thor, Jess Panayiotou (2), Eleanor Udall, Ro Sinclair, Millie Coulbeck with Izzy McGuire adding 6 conversions and Udall one.
Green scorers were – Kyra Geary (2), Rose Baugh (2), Julia Birch, Sarah Tooze (from over half way), Isy Davies, Hattie, AP, Ella Brierley (2), Clara Such, Phoenix Robinson with 5 conversions from Davies and 2 from Em Williams.
LICHFIELD COLTS 31 WALSALL 21 PTS
This friendly was very much a game of two halves, affected undoubtedly by a strong breeze favouring the side playing away from the clubhouse. Walsall had first shot with it and were leading by two converted tries by half time (14-0), whereupon the strong bench was introduced by Messrs Hitchen and Weaver.
In 15 minutes, Lichfield had rattled up four tries (two converted) and the visitors had hardly touched the ball. Thereafter, the game became more even, although try number 5 secured the win for the unbeaten Lichfield squad. Walsall did well to manage a late consolation for their gallant efforts.
Next week, Lichfield entertain Birmingham Moseley in the league (KO 2pm) – top v 2nd – and in a fortnight they travel to Chester in round 3 of the National Cup.
LICHFIELD GIRLS U16s 20 BARKERS BUTTS 40 PTS
The Coventry side, who were strong enough last season at U14 level to beat Lichfield twice in three games, proved too good and really well coached for the current U16s. They led 35-10 in the first half and their defence was excellent in the second period as Lichfield rallied. They were restricted to two efforts wide out. Enjoyable for both camps.
JUNIORS/MINIS
The boys U15s defeated Old Sils 38-0 at home, whilst the 13s’ two squads had mixed success against Melbourne and Syston. The 12s had a competitive morning against a well drilled Bournville side.

Good Luck to all those representing this weekend - Please check venues and KO times with your Team Managers
