WEEKEND 14-15 MARCH
OSWESTRY 1st XV 25 LICHFIELD 1ST XV 43 PTS
COUNTIES 3 MIDLANDS WEST (NORTH)
At the 3rd attempt, this league game finally took place on Saturday, although the conditions were once again not ideal with a heavy surface having to be contended with. Oswestry came into the match with some decent recent form, but Lichfield had too much fire power for them and ran in seven tries to seal another well merited victory, which keeps them in third place with five more games to go.
The away side tries came from Mike Davis (2), Matt Key, Sam Craddock (his first for 12 months), Fraser Eadie, Tom Day and James Henderson with Michael Turner kicking four conversions. The return fixture will be in two weeks before three games taking place after Easter.
COLTS
LICHFIELD 12 WOLVERHAMPTON 17 PTS
STAFFS CUP QTR FINAL
After three consecutive finals, this talented squad came up short in this very competitive and hard fought cup match at Cooke Fields on Sunday, played out in horribly wet and windy conditions. This made it a very forward orientated game, which did not suit Lichfield, and one which did not allow the home side to unleash their best strike runners for long periods.
Wolverhampton grafted really hard, with commendable scrambling defence, having had first use of the wind and a half time lead of seventeen points. Lichfield scored two tries within fifteen minutes of the break, but were not able to find that extra piece of skill and nous to unlock the visitors’ defence a third time.
This was only the squad’s second defeat of the season and they can now concentrate on winning the league title – at present, they are thirteen points clear with four games to go. They get back on the proverbial horse on Sunday with a home league game against Sutton, KO 2pm.
WOMEN/GIRLS
LICHFIELD GREEN XV 10 BOURNVILLE 1s 5 PTS
NC1 MIDLANDS WEST
This was another game hindered by the heavy rain and cold in the Lichfield area on Sunday afternoon. An afternoon with their mothers would have been a better occupation for the muddy
and frozen players, however, the Lichfield second string grafted willingly for their win by two tries to one – a welcome double over the Birmingham outfit.
Rose Baugh, full back, and Kim Walton-Evans on the wing scored the two home tries, which has taken them up to third spot with a game in hand over the two sides below them, but leaves them with a 9 point gap to second placed West Bridgford. Five games to go.
The Red team are away to Blaydon on Saturday and there is no game for the Green team.
The girls U14s were the only one of the non adult sides to play and they defeated Leicester Forest 53-5 despite the testing weather/conditions.

Both the boys’ games were friendlies this weekend. The results were as follows:-

GIRLS
