*Match Report – Lichfield U12s vs Derby RUFC*
On a refreshingly sunny morning, Lichfield U12s welcomed Derby RUFC for what proved to be a competitive and high-quality fixture.
Lichfield fielded two squads against a strong single Derby side, ensuring plenty of game time and a real test for the whole group. Derby were a well-organised outfit with a particularly effective kicking game, using territory intelligently and forcing Lichfield to think carefully about positioning and backfield coverage.
From the outset, the physicality and tempo were high. Derby applied pressure through structured phases and smart tactical kicking, but Lichfield responded with resilience and character. The defensive line speed improved as the games progressed, and the boys showed real determination to compete at the breakdown and in contact.
In attack, Lichfield worked hard to move the ball wide and play with ambition. There were some excellent passages of play, with strong carries, committed support lines and improved communication across the pitch. Several players put in standout performances — carrying hard, tackling bravely, and showing leadership under pressure. Man of the matches go to Jo and Jacob ?
What was most pleasing was the collective effort. Against a well-drilled and competitive Derby side, the lads refused to step back, adapting to the kicking threat and continuing to battle for every metre.
A valuable morning of rugby in the sunshine — tough opposition, strong lessons learned, and plenty to build on as the season continues.
Well done to all involved. ??
