Even with a squad of 17 players .....Travelling back to Newport the Lichfield boys knew they would be in for a tough game after their victories the previous week.

Unfortunately Covid hit and we were unable to take any substitutes to the game.

The coaches asked the lads to switch on and start strong and boy did they make their mark. The entire first half saw exceptional defence, attack and support play keeping the ball alive and moving it into space. Every ruck was well resourced with strong competition and with Newport struggling to make an impact on the game Lichfield Lions took a well deserved 20 - 5 lead into the break.

Lichfield started the second half strong but the large pitch and lack of any substitutes started to show 10 minutes and Newport benefited from making numerous changes at half time with fresh legs they slowly starting to make more yards.

Lich Lions kept up the desire,effort and teamwork even though they were out on their feet. Despite battling to the end the Lichfield legs just couldn’t do what the brain was asking them to! Newport scored 3 tries in the last 4 minutes to take the win but the reality was this was an outstanding effort and the coaches have never been prouder of the boys .. AWESOME
