Lichfield u13s started the 2022/23 season with a friendly fixture at local neighbours Wolverhampton.
Following a respectful 1 minute silence from both sides in memory of Her Majesty the Queen, Wolverhampton kicked off the match, which was played on their 1XV pitch in bright sunshine.
From the early exchanges it was clear that Wolverhampton were going to play a very direct game as they continually powered through the Lichfield defences towards the try line. The first half proved to be fairly one sided and played mostly in the Lichfield half, with Wolverhampton scoring a number of unanswered tries. However the Lichfield heads never dropped and they continued to give 100% for each other.
Lichfield u13s put on a much more spirited performance in the second half and began proving more of a match for Wolverhampton. Several Lichfield attacks were halted within a few metres of the opposition tryline by a stubborn and well organised Wolverhampton defence.
Overall Wolverhampton were much too strong and fully deserved their comprehensive win.
A big thankyou to all the u13 parents for making the early Sunday morning journey to Wolverhampton and for their magnificent support throughout the morning.
Plenty of areas to work on in training before the next u13 match v Hinckley on Sunday, but also lots for the coaches to be encouraged by for the long season ahead. Well played lads!
