Our roving reporter, Alex Froude, fresh from watching the Lichfield u13s:

After a tricky outing to Burton last week the Lichfield u13s were looking for an improved performance against Camp Hill.

The game started with a bullish Camp Hill taking the game to Lichfield. Their key strategy to involve their pack in every drive and endeavor to punch through the Lichfield defense and despite great defensive work across the line form Evan, Olly, and George to name but a few, the visitors took an early lead with a close-to-being-held-up try.

This influenced the boys and heads dropped with another two Camp hill tries being conceded very shortly after again, following the same formulation of repeated pack lead attacks.

Lichfield however mustered some resolve and began to play their game, moving the ball quickly through hands and creating several great chances which on another day would have led to at least 3 tries. Fraser came closest to opening the Lichfield account; his solo effort disallowed following a lengthy discussion between referee and linesman, for having a foot in touch.

Lichfield also played with courage; Noah and Sam taking hard hits from a well drilled opposition. Despite this it was not their half and after a passage of smooth passing play conceded a turnover that gave Camp Hill a strong lead at the break.

Putting the first half behind them the Lichfield u13s began the second half with must more vigor, really taking the game to Camp Hill and showcasing their fantastic handling and endeavour progressing to a fantastic try for Fraser.

This high-level play continued with Lichfield playing their game leading to more and more opportunities, with one try initially awarded then controversially disallowed for a double movement, after an amazing passage of play where the ball went through the hands of Addison, Nic and DC before Fraser grubber kicking through and seemingly grounding the ball.

However, Camp Hill were not done and their excellent ruck play and team support brought them turnovers and territory that pinned back the stalwart Myrtle Greens. This onslaught began to drain the defenders and taking advantage of some missed tackles the Camp Hill star man player Y broke through twice to score securing a deserved Camp Hill Victory.

Lichfield u13s can hold their heads high – the game was closer than the score suggested and despite the result none of the boys shirked the challenge and played the Lichfield way.
