Lichfield U15's travelled for their first ever match at Burntwood on Sunday. They were made very welcome by our local neighbours with the added bonus the match being played on the first XV pitch.
With only a few pre-season training sessions under the belt for both teams everyone was a little ring rusty - but with no little endeavour. With no-contended scrumaging for 18 months both sides found it sensible to start with un-contested scrums in the interest of player safety.
The match was close and competitive - with Burntwood winning the greater share of the rucks in the first half subsequently leading to possession and points on the board. Lichfield gradually worked their way back into the game starting to compete harder at the breakdown and win their own ball.
The third quarter proved to be match defining - with the Lichfield backs being consistently being fed fast ball and now running straighter lines - three trys followed in quick succession.
Thanks to our hosts for a good game - we look forward to the return fixture later in the season.
