Lichfield U15’s v Kings Norton – Friendly Match – Sunday 30th January 2022

KO 11:02am – Game played on 2nd Team Pitch with Kings Norton playing towards the Clubhouse in the first half, and kicking off. Weather bright and mild, ground soft to firm

4 mins – Lichfield Try. After being awarded a penalty that was kicked to touch, Lichfield won the following lineout and used a set move where the ball was recycled successfully twice before being picked up by Ruben Slack who went on the blindside to score the try to the left hand side of the posts.

7 mins – Lichfield try. From the Kings Norton kick off after the Lichfield try, the ball was recycled by the forwards, moved out to the backs where Chaz Vernon made a break, offloaded to Zac Birkett Potter who continued the run and just managed to offload to Leni Payne who stepped back in to scorch in from 20 metres out just in from touch and to the right hand side of the posts.

28 mins – Lichfield try. After a penalty was awarded to Lichfield the kick for touch gave the opportunity for a line out and forwards drive towards the line, with great forward control Teddy Roberts broke free to score to the left of the posts and way out towards the touch line

End of first half. Lichfield 21 – 0 Kings Norton

47 mins – Kings Norton try. Kings Norton had slowly secured more possession as the game wore on and after a succession of penalties against Lichfield, and last ditch heroic defence from the lads, the Kings Norton Fly Half elected to kick cross field in open play, the ball was spilled by the Lichfield player and regathered by the Kings Norton Winger to score to the right hand side of the posts, 15 metres in from touch

60 mins – Lichfield try. From a Lichfield lineout a set move was called again, the ball secured and recycled by ruck, then moved out into the centres and recycled at the ruck again where Ruben Slack picked up to break close to the side of the ruck, he broke 2 or 3 would be tackles to show great strength and carry himself over for a try under the posts

Final Score. Lichfield 28 – 5 Kings Norton

The first 20 minutes was easily some of the best Rugby you Lads have ever played in a Lichfield shirt, you completely blew Kings Norton away! You recycled really dynamically, moved the ball from the rucks really quickly, transferred the ball through the hands really quickly and basically gave Kings Norton no time to settle, they were bewildered with the pace and accuracy of your play and simply had no answer, it was awesome!........and then we seemed to go off the boil a bit. Credit to Kings Norton they were tenacious and stuck to their task doggedly, they are a decent and well drilled side so I guess the reality is that you maybe didn’t go off the boil, it just might have felt like that to the Coaches and parents after such a blistering start….it’s a measure of how far you come that the Coaches were almost disappointed after the first 20 minutes, bit strange?

Keep it going Lads, another great team performance….but there’s loads to work on!
