A sunny but cold Sunday afternoon saw the Lichfield Colts face up to a competitive Kettering Colts team, who had travelled with some intent.
Both teams had clearly prepared well for this National Colts Cup Last 16 tie, and the first half was a tight and pulsating half with neither side giving away much, exactly what is to be expected at this stage in the competition.
Penalties, yellow cards and drop goal drama, the match had everything and was well backed by a passionate and vocal home team support.
In the end it came down to three points, with Kettering holding their lead throughout but Lichfield never out of the contest. A last minute try by Lichfield couldn't make the difference and force the game into extra time.
A had fought but deserved victory went to Kettering, and with it our wishes and support in the next round.
For Lichfield Colts it’s back to the Staffs Cup and League competitions and possibly another chance in next year's National Cup.
