Today the U14 girls travelled to Market Bosworth to play on a very boggy pitch. Due to available numbers three of our girls started for the opposition and we dropped to 13 a-side. Before kick-off, we asked for intensity and the girls delivered. The girls came out of the blocks hard and left no space for the Market Bosworth girls to play leading to big tackles and quick turnovers. Despite the muddy conditions, the backs were able to get the ball out wide and release our runners. After a flurry of tries, the game settled into a pattern of hard running in attack and front foot defending. The breakdowns were frustrating with calls not going our way, but the girls never let their heads drop and they kept going forward.

In the second half, with two players handed to the opposition, the game was much more even, and Market Bosworth began to fight back. The girls stood firm and didn’t let them come back into the game in a meaningful way. Despite more calls going against us, we kept going and held on for a strong win. Several girls have started to step up in recent weeks and we know that they will continue to develop and continue to grow in confidence. The strength in depth we have across the team is a great place to be.

As we approach the cup final, games against tough opposition will help us prepare. Every minute on grass helps and with an unbeaten record to protect, we know how hard the girls are working. The Market Bosworth coaches commented on how well our girls played for them and put the pressure back onto Lichfield. Whilst there were multiple players who put in one of their best performances in a Lichfield shirt, Eleanor was a thoroughly deserved to be nominated as Player of the Match.
