Another great performance from the girls today against a confident team from Clee Hill. After a disrupted winter period, it was nice to be playing at home again, albeit with limited training time under our belts.

The girls didn’t start as well as we’d like, despite the try in the first minute. But once they’d settled into their game plan, it looked excellent. At the set piece, we were dominant and even won ball against the head in the scrums. The back row hunted down the Clee Hill receivers and put them under a lot of pressure forcing repeated turnovers. In open play, the forwards worked hard for each other in both attack and defence. The pods continue to be an effective weapon and line-breaks are coming regularly as a result. In defence the tackles were big, and we fought hard at the breakdown to regain possession wherever it was available. A big shout out to guest flankers, Tabs and Izzy, for stepping in to cover the unavailable players. The backs maintained a great shape throughout and used the excellent distribution from the half-backs to release runners and exploit all the space being created out wide. They kept the Clee Hill runners quiet with some great cover tackling.

Whilst several players had great games, and as a team we turned in one of our strongest performances of the season, Amelia H was thoroughly deserving of the Player of the Match trophy. Her growing confidence at Full Back is showing week on week, and her ability to step at least one defender is great to watch.
