Match Report: Lichfield U16 Girls vs Chester U16 Girls – NATIONAL CUP
Venue: Chester RUFC – First Team Pitch
Date: 23/11/2025
Lichfield U16 Girls travelled to Chester for a National Cup match that delivered everything you’d want and more from grass roots rugby. We were honoured to play on Chester’s first team pitch. A huge thank you to Chester RUFC for the very warm welcome and the privilege of using such an excellent facility.
From the outset, the game was a high-energy, end-to-end battle. Both teams came out firing, and the match never let up. It was a fiercely contested encounter, with momentum swinging back and forth throughout. With less than ten minutes to go, the game was still wide open. Only a single try separated the 2 teams, a testament to the intensity and balance of the contest.
Chester struck first with an early try, but Lichfield responded swiftly and powered over the line to level the score. The match continued at an impressive pace, with both teams trading territory and pressure. It was fitting that Liz, our No.3, capped off the game with a well-earned try, showcasing the grit and determination that defined the team’s performance. Lizzie's conversations added the final flourish, sealing a hard-fought finish.
Every Lichfield player gave their all - putting the team first, putting their bodies on the line, and showing the kind of commitment that makes this group of girls so special.
The girls adapted brilliantly to the conditions, attacking and defending with discipline and launching dynamic attacking phases that kept Chester under pressure. Their work at the breakdown was relentless, and their defensive organisation around the ruck was key in countering a well drilled and physical Chester side.
Players’ Player of the Match:
Lichfield: Tilly (Forward), Lizzie (Back)
Chester: No.3 and Ellis No.10)
A huge thank you to all the parents/carers for your continued support and for making the long journey to Chester possible. Your presence and encouragement mean the world to the team and make the difference. We were lucky enough to get a visit from our very own World Cup winning Amy Cokayne to give the girls an extra boost.
Although the result didn’t go our way in the end, the standard of rugby on display was exceptional. The Chester coaches and players were full of praise for the way our girls played and how fiercely they competed right to the final whistle. That recognition speaks volumes.
We couldn’t be prouder of the team today. Their heart, teamwork, and resilience were on full display - and that’s what rugby is all about!
Thankfully, there were no major injuries to report, though there were plenty of well-earned battle scars. Billy’s black eye might be the front-runner and one to reassess at training!
