A fantastic all-round performance today from the girls against Stafford. The game started at a frenetic pace and from kick-off, the tries were flying in. After a few weeks of working on our defence, both in the tackle and as a team, the results were evident today. Equally, the rucking and counter-rucking are turning into a powerful weapon for the girls with our ball secured and the opposition’s stolen. The game went so well that by half-time the decision was taken to mix the teams up and maximise both sets of players’ opportunities on the pitch by utilising the RFU’s Challenge the Game rules.
Megan was this week’s captain and stepped up by making decisions when needed. She then took her chances to score with her typical speed and eye for a gap. Tori made some more big carries and worked hard in defence, even when faced with an overlap. Ella-Mai put in another big performance and made the opposition work hard by applying pressure both in open play but especially with her strength in the breakdown. Caitlyn put in a strong performance and completed a textbook jackal to secure possession for the team. Molly worked hard across the pitch to support anywhere it was needed. She was hard to shift in the rucks. Phoebe carried the ball into contact well and made some crucial offloads from the tackle to set tries up. This week’s player of the match, Amelia, channelled her seemingly bottomless pit of energy into an excellent performance which saw her make very bit of possession count and not only set up her team-mates to score but ran in a few of her own as well. She then introduced a game of “Haribo Hoovering” in the clubhouse after the match. A great afternoon’s work by everyone.
Thank you again to all parents for making the match possible by supporting the girls and allowing them to have a great game of rugby!
