Today the U12 girls travelled to Tamworth and finally played some rugby, following some awful weather. The lack of training was evident, but their determination in both attack and defence was clear to see. Bolstered by some players from Tamworth, the girls took their time to get into the swing of things, but as the first half drew to an end, Lichfield were in the ascendency. In particular, the catching from kick off was excellent. The second half started brighter, buoyed by a change in Tamworth support players. The girls worked hard and fought for every inch and finally the tries began to come. We were looking for support, communication and aggression in the breakdowns today and we got all three.

Caitlin was this week’s captain, and she led from the front with some strong carries into contact and an outstanding pass, drawing the final defender, to release Molly to score. Molly had another tenacious and put in some big tackles and took her try excellently. Phoebe continues to grow in confidence and was more than once at the bottom of a big tackle to bring down a Tamworth ball carrier. Amelia was quick onto the ball on more than one occasion and when she got the ball away was able to release a supporting runner. Megan was quick in attack and took her try well but equally put in some great tackles. Finally, our Player of the Match Tori, scored a powerful try, closed down attacking runners, and worked hard in defence.
